When Do I Make The Move To A Senior Community?

Three Pillars Independent Living

Many factors go into deciding when to move into a senior living community including an entire lifetime of decisions to that point. Which community is right for me? How much can I afford? What kind of residences are offered? What kind of activities are provided? Is the community highly rated? What care services do they offer? How do I decide!?

Moving on from your home, whether it’s a single-family house or a condo, is an emotional decision with many facets pulling at your heartstrings as you begin the next adventure in your life. Ultimately, you’ll know when it’s the right time.

Dave and Lark K., residents of Three Pillars Senior Living Communities, sat down with us recently to talk about why they knew independent living at Village on the Square in Dousman, WI was right for them over four years ago. While they enjoyed their home and nature-filled property, they knew it was time to let someone else take over the maintenance and yard work. Time to downsize and focus on them.

“It was one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life,” Dave happily admitted.

They both have many tips for people considering the move to a senior living community, but their top tips are:

• Have a plan/don’t wait too long to make the move

• Visit often and get familiar with the community before you decide

• Once you get moved in, take up a new hobby – there’s so much yet to learn

Lark has taken up painting since they moved in and has become quite the artist, while Dave has come out of his shell and “blossomed,” as Lark put it.

“Moving here has made me grow as a human being,” said Dave.
